Water Hygiene Services

As an individual or company responsible for a water system you have a legal obligation under Health & Safety Legislation, specifically ACoP L8, to have a water hygiene control regime in place to ensure the quality of the water provided and manage the risk of exposure to the Legionella bacteria.

Mawdsleys are approved via the National Water Hygiene scheme to safely work on all aspects of your water pressure tanks and booster sets.  We offer a wide range of water hygiene services working directly with the facilities management company to help them meet their legal obligations.

Tank Chlorination, Cleaning & Disinfection

Chlorination is the standard water industry process for the safe sterilization of drinking water to ensure it is fit for human consumption upon delivery to the buildings residents.

Using specialist cleaning equipment we are able to quickly clean and chlorinate all kinds of water tanks, from Gravity fed tanks to water boosted systems.

Once the chlorination and clean has taken place, our engineers will provide you with a full report with photographs detailing any additional problems associated with the tank or the water supply.

Water Testing

Private Water Supplies Regulations 2009 require each private supply, intended for human consumption, to undergo a risk assessment which determines how regularly the supply needs to be tested. This will depend on factors and issues relating to the source of the water, how well it is protected and also the number of properties served by the supply.

We will test the water at the specified intervals to meet with these regulations. The testing of the water will determine whether it is fit for human consumption based on the list of bacterial and chemical parameters detailed in the regulations. For example, the allowed concentration of sodium is 200 mg/l.  Allowable lead concentrations have been reduced again since the previous version.

Cold Water Storage Tank Maintenance and Risk Assessment

The BSI British Standard BS7592:2008 Sampling for Legionella bacteria in water systems is the code of practice that needs to be adhered to by law. Your Legionella Risk Assessment is the first requirement of your continued management of water hygiene and safety, so it is of paramount importance that it is carried out to the highest standard.

At Mawdsleys we have fully trained surveyors who undertake the necessary risk assessments to ensure compliance with the Health & Safety Commission Approved Code of Practice L8:  Legionnaires’ disease the control of legionella bacteria in water systems. Your risk assessment is presented as a report which includes images and an easy to understand action list for those with the statutory duty, enabling them to prioritise the work required to control legionella.

As part of our service offering we can carry out cold water tank maintenance including repair and replacement of essential pipework.
